Is this within the Visa/MC policies?
The school bookstore "requires" that we put our phone number on the signature copy.
Anyone know anything about this? Do I "have" to do it?
Thanks!
I don't think that's allowed. However, I can understand a college bookstore requiring a phone number to purchase. Do they get the number from cash and check customers?

I don't think they can REQUIRE a phone # for purchase...
Just put like 202-335-1215 or 617-655-0445 (or some random #)... if you don't want to give out a phone #.

If they're just doing it for credit customers than it's illegal. If they ask EVERYBODY than it's probably legal, since you're probably dealing with used books. The local used game store collects personal information for used merchandise transactions.

I've seen that before at stores and I leave it blank.

George... trading in used games, books, cds, or dvds requires the personal information.
They are trying to prevent fraud (going to FYE or GameStop or EbGames to return games you stole.)
If the police do an investigation and find the stolen games or whatever then they can track down the theif who had traded them in.
GameStop/ EBGames requires phone #, name, and address I think. FYE requires ID.

I say give em a number for the rejection hotline. Quite useful for that annoying guy/girl that wants your phone number. www.rejectionhotline.com
