HIPPA Rocks

I received one of those nasty collection threats letters last week from an optholmolgist that we saw in the summer of 2004. At the time of the visit we made our copays and were given statements that showed 0 bal. well along comes this nasty gram for $39.95 (odd amount) I immediately contacted the business manager and asked how the account grew when we had not been services!!!! she refused to validate the charge and I faxed her a modified HIPPA letter and told her to go ahead to collections b/c I could use some money for a cruise!!!!! She faxed me back and called to apologized and removed the charge and withdrew the collection attempt. I guess they do this on a regular basis and most people pay up with out questioning the charges just to avoid collections. I sent copies of everything to the BBB. Thanks whychat and subprime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
