Hopefully someone can help answer my questions. I'm in the middle of a divorce and my soon-to-be ex wife is racking up medical bills. The insurance is in my name and by law i have to continue providing it for her. I am now receiving medical bills that have gone to collections and they are dragging down my credit score. Is there anything i can do? They are not huge bills but i would like to get them off my report asap. Thanks in advance.
Opt out Send this to each CRA , list all the medical accounts If the reporting CA's verify the accounts to the CRAs AND send you the data from each OC ( Health Care Provider) then pay the bills directly to each OC with the HIPAA letter insert "a". OR, if these are all recent bills and you have the original bills from each OC, pay them by money order or credit card directly to the OC, do NOT pay the CAs who are reporting or you will wind up with a "paid" collection on your account. For current and ongoing bills pay them immediately up until your final decree. If you are going to be responsible for her medical bills AFTER the divorce, make sure that you instruct your insurance Co. to send you the EOMBs so you can keep current. If you are NOT going to be liable for her medical bills, have her taken off your insurance.
